π’Lease Deal in the Works for Lancaster Mental Health Center

Credit: DBIA
Great news, AV! The High Desert Mental Health Urgent Care Center in Lancaster could be staying open for years to come. On Tuesday, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors will consider a recommendation from Joseph Nicchitta, Acting Chief Executive to approve a five-year lease with Star View Behavioral Health. The agreement would secure about 9,678 square feet of office space for the center, keeping it running and ready to serve the community.
Since opening in July 2021, the center has been a lifeline for anyone 13 and older facing a mental health crisis. It operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, offering fast, compassionate care whenever someone needs it.
Star View runs the facility under contract with the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health. With the new lease, they can continue providing crucial services without skipping a beat, giving staff the stability they need to focus on helping people in their most challenging moments.
This means a trusted resource stays right in the neighborhood, ready to support residents and provide peace of mind to those who rely on it. Families, teens, and adults can continue turning to the center for help when they need it most, knowing compassionate care is just around the corner. Itβs another win for the community and a reminder that help is always close to home.

π Huge Propane Fire Lights Up Lancaster Sky

A massive pile of propane tanks went up in flames Friday afternoon in Lancaster, sending black smoke curling into the sky for hours.
The blaze started around 2:30 p.m. when a propane truck caught fire at a business on the 42500 block of Eighth Street East, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department spokesman Fred Fielding. There were βseveral hundredβ tanks either on fire or nearby, he said.
Firefighters played it safe, attacking the fire from all sides with water while making sure nearby buildings stayed protected. They let the fire burn itself out rather than risk getting too close.
Dramatic footage from ABC7 showed flames and thick smoke rising from a yard full of scattered tanks. KTLA 5 reported that an explosion even sent at least one tank flying over a fence. A nearby building also caught fire, but the firefighters managed to keep things under control.
By 5:42 p.m., the fire was out. No injuries and nearby buildings stayed safe.
Lancaster can finally breathe easy!

π AVC Makes History: Marauders Win the Western State Bowl

Credit: AVC
AV Fam, we have a HUGE reason to celebrate. The Antelope Valley College Marauders just closed out one of the greatest football seasons in school history with a 26-14 Western State Bowl victory, their first 10 win season since 1974. Yes, fifty one years.
The home crowd was electric as AVC battled back from an early deficit, locking in with big plays on both sides of the ball. John Sanders threw for 235 yards, Isaiah Morgan powered through with 91 rushing yards, and Azim Bankhead led all receivers with 94 yards.
The defense? Untouchable. Two interceptions, two sacks, and they shut San Bernardino Valley out for the entire fourth quarter.
The Marauders finished the year 10-1, marking an absolutely historic run in Coach Gordonβs first season.
This was more than a win. It was a statement. A comeback. A new chapter for AV football.
Congrats to the Marauders!
