🚨 A Tragic Week on Lancaster Roads: 4 Lives Lost in Separate Crashes

Credit: Getty Images

Our mission is to highlight all the great and positive things happening here in the AV, and we will continue to do just that. But this week’s heartbreaking accidents struck a chord, and we felt it was important to take a moment to speak directly to our community.

In just a few short days, three separate crashes across Lancaster have claimed four lives and left several others injured. The incidents happened at different times and locations; one late at night, another early in the morning, and one involving multiple vehicles in a busy area.

The victims were our neighbors, young adults, older drivers, and families now left grieving. While investigations are still ongoing, early reports suggest that speeding and reckless driving may have played a role in at least one of the crashes.

💬 We’re asking everyone in the AV, let’s do better behind the wheel.
Slow down. Drive sober. Stay off your phone. Buckle up. And remember, every trip, no matter how short, is a chance to protect a life.

Even one life lost is too many. Let’s take care of each other out there.

🚉 Could Lancaster Shut Down Incoming Trains?

Credit: Metrolink

City officials say it’s about public safety — critics say it hurts commuters

There’s a heated conversation picking up in Lancaster after Vice Mayor Marvin Crist floated the idea of shutting down all incoming Metrolink trains to the city.

The proposal? Stop people from riding into Lancaster, and instead create a “bus bridge” from Palmdale or Acton to bring daily commuters back up north. The reason? Crist says too many unhoused individuals are being sent in from LA County, and Lancaster is being left to deal with it.

At a recent AVTA board meeting, Crist said that about 25 people per day who appear to be unhoused are arriving at the Lancaster station, and not heading back out. He claims this is part of a larger trend with LA “cleaning up downtown” ahead of major global events like the Olympics, World Cup, and Super Bowl, and pushing the problem out to smaller cities like ours.

He also claimed that a veterans group provided affidavits saying they were paid to bring unhoused individuals to the AV.

Needless to say, this idea is raising eyebrows. LA County Supervisor Kathryn Barger pushed back, saying cutting Metrolink service would be a big hit to working folks who rely on the line daily.

According to Crist, outbound Metrolink rides wouldn’t change — the closure would only apply to people coming into town. But for many, even a temporary change like this could cause headaches.

📆 The idea could be discussed as soon as Oct. 20 at the North County Transportation Coalition meeting, followed by Lancaster City Council on Oct. 28.

This one’s sure to spark more debate. On one hand, the city says it’s trying to protect resources and safety. On the other, some neighbors say it’s a band-aid solution that punishes the wrong people.

🔬 Lancaster High Students Show Off STEM Skills

Credit: AV HS District

The next generation of inventors and problem-solvers took center stage at Lancaster High’s Project Lead The Way Showcase, where students shared hands-on projects in biomedical science and engineering. From innovative medical prototypes to clever design solutions, the showcase was packed with creativity, critical thinking, and a whole lot of future potential.

Parents, community members, and industry partners got a front-row seat to see what AV’s young minds are capable of, and it was nothing short of impressive. The showcase not only highlighted the school’s top-tier STEM program but gave students a chance to shine and connect classroom work to real-world possibilities.

It’s proof that big ideas are already being built right here in the AV.

🌮 Birria Superior – Drip, Flavor, and Fire on the Blvd

If you’re craving something cheesy, crispy, and full of rich flavor, Birria Superior on Lancaster Blvd is the move. This isn’t your average taco joint! This spot is all about slow-stewed birria, melty quesatacos, and that signature consomé dip that’ll have you hooked after the first dunk.

Everyone raves about the Superior Box (perfect for sharing… or not) and their loaded birria fries, which come smothered in meat, cheese, crema, and a hit of heat. Whether you're into tacos, burritos, ramen, or even birria pizza, this place knows how to keep things bold.

The vibe is casual but the food is serious! Portions are generous, flavors are deep, and everything comes out hot and dripping in all the best ways.

⚽ AV Alta FC

BAD night on the pitch for Alta! FC Naples blanked them 4‑0 yesterday, securing not just the win but a playoff spot in their inaugural season.

Naples struck early:

  • Jayden Onen opened the scoring in the 28th minute

  • Kevin O’Connor pounced in stoppage time before halftime

  • Julian Cisneros and Ian Cerro added goals in the second half to seal the rout

Alta’s defense was overrun, and despite the team’s best efforts, they couldn’t mount a comeback.

This result drops Alta lower in the standings, and brings into sharp focus what needs fixing. From finishing in the final third to defensive consistency. The margins are slim, and with the season winding, they’ll have to regroup fast.
