๐Acton Speaks Up: Locals Raise Questions About Train Drop-Offs

Photo Cred: Metrolink Trains
Things got lively at the Acton Town Council meeting this week! Locals packed the room to talk about something thatโs got the community buzzing: people possibly experiencing homelessness being dropped off at the townโs Metrolink station.
Residents shared what theyโve seen: folks arriving with backpacks or luggage, hopping on the train, and heading out of town. Some wondered if theyโre coming from Lancaster or other nearby areas.
One resident mentioned seeing people from Cal City getting dropped off by the Kern County bus to catch a train to Union Station. The comments sparked plenty of questions and conversation, but so far, thereโs no proof of any official relocation effort.
โI donโt know that thereโs any evidence,โ said Council Vice President Don Laird. โThere should be no organized plan to put homeless people on a train and send them to the end of the line.โ
With Actonโs wide-open spaces and few nearby services, neighbors say theyโre just looking out for both residents and those who may need help.
Countywide, Metro says thereโs been some good news: homelessness across its transit system has dropped by nearly 40% in the past year, and more than 2,700 people have been connected to housing.
For Acton, though, itโs all about finding balance, keeping the community safe, informed, and compassionate while bigger conversations play out across the county.

๐ฌ Local Update: Mailbox Plus Revives Quartz Hillโs Postal Services
Good news, Quartz Hill! You can still take care of your mailing and shipping right in town. After the USPS shuttered the contract for the Office at 50th St. West in September, Mailbox Plus stepped in and reopened the location on October 1, expanding it into a full-service hub.
Then new owner Yasaira Dominguez remodeled the space, kept an employee, and added services including FedEx, UPS, DHL, passport photos, Live Scan fingerprinting services. Postal boxes are back (with her own units), and former owner Stan Boylan will still play a role. Local customers say this move โsaves time and moneyโ and keeps essential services close to home.
Itโs more than a post office reopening, itโs the community standing up and keeping Quartz Hill connected. Next time you mail something, stop in at the revived spot and say congrats to the team.

๐Hop On, Pay Up, Ride Happy: AVTA Cracks Down on Fare Jumpers!

Photo Cred: AVTA
Big news is rolling down the bus lanes! The Antelope Valley Transit Authority is cracking down on fare evasion. Last year, unpaid fares cost AVTA $1.2 million. Thatโs money that could have gone to cleaner buses, more routes, better security, and smoother rides for everyone.
Every fare counts. Board without paying and law enforcement could ticket you. One-way fares are $1.50. Daily, weekly, and monthly passes are available. Discounts apply for seniors, veterans, disabled riders, and students.
Starting this month, buses will display new signs saying, โNo Fare = No Rideโ in English and Spanish. Harassing bus operators is serious. By October 30, deputies from the LA County Sheriffโs Department and Lancaster Police will be at major transit centers checking fares. Warnings may be given, but repeat offenders could face fines up to $250.
Students, take note! AVTA is working with local high schools to make sure TAP Cards and GoPasses are used correctly. Cameras on every bus record behavior and enforcement will focus on routes with the most fare evaders. Misbehavior affects safety and fairness for everyone.
Adult riders arenโt off the hook. Fare assistance programs exist for low-income riders, seniors, and veterans. Ignoring proper payment is illegal and hurts the whole community.
AVTA CEO Martin Tompkins says it best, "Paying your fare is an investment in a better transit system for everyone.โ Letโs all do our part to keep buses safe, reliable, and smooth. Grab your $1.50, hop on, and enjoy the ride!

๐ฅ The Ravenโs Nest: Gothic Glam Meets Gourmet Flavor

Credit: Yelp
If youโve never been to The Ravenโs Nest in Quartz Hill, nowโs the time to make a reservation. This restaurant blends moody, immersive atmosphere with a menu that swings from European comfort to bold fusion dishes, and anyone that has ever been, canโt stop raving about it.
The lamb chops are the standout, cooked perfectly and packed with flavor. Folks also love the lobster bisque, braised short ribs, and that Queens NY meatball pizza!
Itโs the kind of spot you go to when you want something a little different. A date night, birthday, or just a cool place to unwind. The service is friendly, the food is always full of flavor, and the whole experience feels like a little escape from the everyday.

โฝ AV Alta FC Falls Late in 3โ2 Battle vs. Charlotte
AV Alta pushed hard in Charlotte on October 10, but came up just short in a 3โ2 loss. Charlotte held off a late Alta surge with a stoppage-time strike from Souaibou Marou, sealing the win. Alta put two in the net (goals by Alexis Cerritos and Christian Ortiz) and kept pressure on, but Charlotteโs depth and clutch finishing proved decisive.
Momentum matters: a strong showing in the next match could keep hopes alive; another setback would likely seal their finish outside playoff contention.
